Admins: how do your users join private usergroups
Hello, my company is asking that guests be disabled and registered users have permissions to one set of 'public forums'. Then, if the users want access to a set of private forums, they need to provide additional personal/occupational information to our supermoderators, and if the request is approved the supermods add the private usergroup to that user, thus granting access to the private forums.
Essentially, the user needs to go through a 2nd registration process. This seems a bit unwieldly and difficult to automate. I'm curious how other admins manage already-registered users requests to join private usergroups. Any comments? Thx, D. |

Make the Usergroup Public, set the Supermods as Usergroup Leaders - Done.

Yeah, I offered that as a solution, but the company thinks that's too complicated for the users (they have to first complete our customer user profile fields then find their way to the join usergroup page) and too complicated for the supermods (no notification of new join requests).
Valid or not, that's the response from the company. Thx, D. |

If you are using 3.5, there is a mod to PM the group leaders on a join request
You could then alter the templates to include a box stating they need to click "here" (linking to usergroups) and apply Satan |

There's also a mod that checks the values of the profile fields at registration time and sorts them to the appropriate usergroup based on those fields.
