I agree with with Chris, it takes something like this to get Americans close again. Same thing happen with 9/11. Everyone cares for each other for a little while, months later; we all hate each other again.

If only the people and government focused on curing diseases half as much as they do on this natural disaster and 9/11, we might actually get something done around here.

Trivialising? No - I'm sorry for the lives that are lost but the hype over Hurricane Katrina is sickening me when every day for the last god knows how many years people in Africa have been dieing every day...

So what you are saying is your indifference is exactly because it hit the US instead of someplace else. Thats fine, at least you're honest about it, though you're damned lucky you aren't typing it in German - thanks to the US.

I have no problem if that is the attitude of the rest of the world as long as they understand the consequences of that attitude.

Since we'll be busy paying for this cleanup, we're not going to have any money for foreign aid. Nor will we be able to afford a military presence in Europe. If that affects the communities where are bases are located, thats not our problem either.

We also can't afford to pay 60% of the UN's annual budget so the rest of you better step up. And while we're at it, We need the UN HQ and apartments to house evacuees, so y'all will have to relocate to Brussels.

The estimates are $100 billion and several years to clean up this mess. During that time, the rest of the world is on its own. Doesn't matter if its an earthquake, fire, tsunami, drought, pandemic, terrorist attack or invasion by another country. We're just going to be too busy to help.

Sound fair? We'll take care of our own and leave the rest to you.

Well said my friend! Nothing personal to any individuals here, but I get sooo sick of all the rest of the citizens of this world slamming the US and blaming us for everything wrong in this world. The fact of the matter is yes, we are blessed in this country, but we also do more good in this world than any single nation has that has ever existed. It is about time the American people stood up to the politicians in this country and force them to see that the majority will is one of screw 'em...lets take care of our own from now on!

a.) I doubt I would be typing it in German for 2 good reasons: 1.) English would still be the most common language used on the Net. 2.) Regardless of your glorified view of America's involvement, the fact that you got attacked and therefore wanted retribution seems to be left out of your viewpoint - Had you not been attacked you wouldn't have joined and then if we had fallen to the Germans you would have continued to ignore the events in Europe until someone attacked you - It suited your country to join and get retribution and play the big hero.

b.) That isn't what I'm saying - I'm saying that if it were in Europe, or the Americas, then people who are too stuck up and well off would be moaning (like they are now) about how bad it is blah blah blah when Africans and other 3rd World citizens are going through tougher things than this every day of their lives for the forseeable future and alot of recent documented history.

c.) I do not see how a few Americans in Europe are going to cause your annual budget to swell - Kill George Bush, that might get you back a few hundred thousand dollars of both education bills to teach him not to be dumb, and food bills because he won't need to eat the finest American lobster or whatever crap he eats.

d.) Again, rubbish, you can more than afford it especially since the rest of the civilised world is donating to the cause of re-building. You can waste billions of dollars on an unjust war in Iraq but can't find a few billion to sort out a natural disaster. And about re-locating to Brussels - That would add travelling costs to you and your delegates and would also not happen - America has no control over the UN therefore you would not be able to take over the UN HQ or their associated properties within the United States.

e.) Estimates by who? $100 billion eh? Yeh I find that hard to believe... And several years? Hah - One or two maybe but several?

f.) Since your country suffers from earthquakes, fires and terrorist attacks thats a good 3/7 of your list there that will also affect you - If you want to take that attitude we'll take back the Aid we sent you and the money we pledged.

At the end of the day you can be a self-righteous self-important American idiot if you wish, but you completely mis-read what I said - I guess with all that bad spelling and years of countrifying that goes on in "The States" you forgot how to understand English...

I don't blame the US for everything wrong in this world - I blame it's citizens for being dumb, and I blame it for the things it is responsible for, which are numerous - I don't doubt you do "more good in this world than any single nation" - Your population is over ten times the size of the UK and yet we still manage to at least half the aid or financial support you give - Odd that 50% of your aid is matched by a country with a population less than 10% of yours - Either that means we are very generous people, or you are very tight... Remember now, though - You have what, 52 (or more) states? Each one, aside from Roade Island is bigger than the UK - Thats effectively multiple UKs within your "Country" - Europe, although sometimes it pains me to say it, is just like one country in some ways - And I'm almost sure that our country of Europe matches if not exceeds your "generosity"...

And before you start making "Listen to the people" banners, realise they won't work - People try every day in every country with a governmental system to change the views of the Politicians - Whether it be 1 person or a million people, they don't listen...

When you learn that not everything is all about you and your country in this world, is perhaps the time that Americans will not be looked upon as selfish idiots and more as human beings

I'm not dumb, don't call me dumb. Do not generalize Americans as thinking the same.

You doing that makes you no better than the person you are arguing with.

You obviously don't know what your talking about **Shocker**

The entire city of New Orleans, Biloxi and Gulf Port is gone. Parts of Mobile, Alabama are underwater.

It will take decades and over 100 billion dollars to rebuild the city, IF we even can.

The city is gone... over 2 million people homeless.

So no, not 1 or 2 years.

Your opinion is that the war is unjust. That is all that that is. Others have differing opinions. Stop stating yours as fact.

Again you are making your opinion fact saying that we would not have joined WWII if we had not been attacked. Can you prove it? Nope. So it remains your opinion. Had we waited longer something would have been done because France was already taken over and GB was being bombed to death.

So piss off with your comments toward Americans being dumb when you yourself are not using fact, but opinion within your arguement.

This makes three threads closed for the exact same reason today. Guys please try to keep politics out of these discussions.

Again if you guys want to discuss how to help out the people in the Gulf feel free to open a new thread. But if they keep going in the direction the last three have they will be closed.
