Is the database structure that different in 3.5.x that you can't access the 3.0.7 database or clone it and use that one while you make the modifications?

This is a given...I know that you can't use 3.0.7 hacks in 3.5.x. My question had to do with a systematic way of documenting changes and hacks and moving them over once they're released.
