what i'm saying is that they are all the way to the top and bottom, respectively, so that you cannot see the background above or below them. Like, the header is hugged all the way to the top, and the footer is all the way to the bottom so that the background only shows on the sides?

See, on this site there is an area on the top and bottom where you can see the background. I want to get rid of that...

I was just trying to help. Why doesn't anybody these days appeciate the help they get? It's just downright mean.
