Laying out your skin.
I was working in photoshop for a few hours on my first skin for vBulletin and I'm messing around with the header. I got to thinking about the bgcolor of the table where all the content will be such as postbit & forumbit. If you have a lighter header do you want to go with a light table bg or go with a darker one.
vBT :: Dark Header, Light Table BG FeXBoards :: Dark Header, Light Table BG yaxay :: Semi-Dark Header, Light Table BG How should I decide which table BG color to use. If you need an example of the header then say so, otherwise I won't link to the image. I know this may not make sense but basically it seems to me like the "darker" headers always have lighter bg's, at least most of the time. Anyhow, whats the best combination. |

Generally, that is just how my designs work out, the same can be said for most other designers as well, a dark color is followed by a lighter color to bring the colors out and make things stand out more.
I don't really try to work anything though, I just use colors that look well together, after that is it just making a decent design |

Matching is the key. Like SD said whatever fits together you should use. Don't use anything that clashes with other colors or just plainly don't match. Also using a dull color with a bright one etc.
