Vbulletin skins?

So which site is it going to be?

In my travels of vb sites I have ran across a few that are selling vb skins. Most of the time though they are only advertising one skin for sale and saying there will be more in the future.

I'm more concerned about finding all the places that are selling these skins. Because as it is right now there is no one large place to go and see a large cateloge of vb skins available.

Second everyone wants to sell their skin. What's the deal with that?

Doesn't anyone want to promote free skins?

I've been looking at the phpbb site and they have a nice little demo showing a bunch of free skins.

Now granted the few skins I've seen availabe for vb are very nice as well. (ravio.com, vbskins.com, teamphotoshop.com) But so are some of these. Not to mention the standard subsilver skin alone is beautiful.

Lately I seem to be coming across several people that want to switch to new forum software. many of whom aren't very good a graphic design. I've been trying to convince people to go with vb over other free software. I tell them wonderful things like Vbulletin.org has 1000 free hacks. Vbulletintemplates has great tips on how to custtomize your vb. Unfortunately when it comes to the skin issue though I have to tell them "well there are a few skins available if you can find them and when you do they are usually $30 bucks or so."

To be honest when I first switched from a free board to vb I figured vbulletin.org had hundreds of free skins waiting behind those password protected forums. I was suprised to find that I couldn't get my hands on one single free skin.

But I am glad to see some skining sites seem to be popping up. The question is more about, which will be the ultimate place to get your skins in the near future? Will any offer free versions? Will there ever be a place like ibskins.com

There are going to be a few. First I'll mention SaintDogs coming soon vBskins site which is www.vbulletinstyles.com which will probably end up being a big place for selling skins.

Second is Alex's www.vbskins.com which just opened but I don't see it getting as big as SD's.

And finally I think Xelation is opening one too, but forgot the url.

No specific dates yet.

Skins are already in development for vBulletinStyles.com, I am just awaiting their delivery. The actual design for vBulletinStyles has been completed and there is little coding left to be done so I am looking to open up shop as soon as possible, pending I get the styles as soon as I am looking to get them.

As for the pricing, they will vary from $20-$50, most being in the lower area unless designed in a more technical style than others.

Regarding free skins, phpBB is a free, open source bulletin board and many push out skins for it. Skins do take time and decent ones that are not just thrown together are going to cost a little. You remember the saying "there is no such thing as a free lunch"? Well that basically applies to everything, nothing in this world is free, at some point you will have to pay.

Chances are you don't have to pay for phpBB, but you do have to pay for the hosting. If you are not paying for the hosting, chances are the uptime is not the best (if you are on one of those free hosts like lycos).

It all comes down to how bad you want something as to whether or not you think it is worth paying for it. You obviously though vBulletin was a good investment, skins cost a fraction of the cost of vB .
