Hosting always comes at a price. I've hosted friends in the past with no adverse effects and I think they enjoyed it alot, but in realitily not everyone knows a hosting provider, and your much better off paying for hosting than trying to get it for someone for free.
The co I am hosted with, VistaPages.com, IMO offers a great service for a reasonable price. I pay $5/mo for a very decent hosting account, and I have had no problems with them whatsoever. No noticeable downtime, no nothing. Only thing that happened was that in a 2h period one day, php scripts would stop parsing.
I would recommend their hosting services to anyone looking for cheap and reliable hosting
