Hi,
I run a pretty popular forum (33,000+ members, 2million+ posts, almost 100k threads). I'm obviously excited to start using vB 3.5 beta, but don't want to make it live on the site yet. If I setup a vB 3.5 install on beta.domain.com, and have it linked to the same database.. would that work? I'm not 100% sure on the database/table differences between versions; so thought I'd ask first <G> TIA Andy |

No - there would no doubt be database changes.

3.5.0 will not work unless you run the upgrade script, which alters your database. After that the old 3.0.x code will probably work with it ok - with the odd strangeness, esp if you reverted your templates. The copyright will say version 3.5.0 beta 1.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply guys ![]() I guess I'll just get the "safe" version setup, and then get it all working. I'm assuming you can import from an older version at a later point? (i.e get it all working, and then before making live... turn the old install off, and import into vB 3.5) ? TIA Andy |

Do not attempt this!
If you must run 3.5 in private on a seprate database, when the time comes upgrade you live forum to 3.5. |
