vBulletin 2.3.7 security upgrade
Refer here:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137309 vBulletin 2.3.7 is a security fix release. If you are running vBulletin 2.3.6 or older, we recommend you upgrade to 2.3.7 or 3.0.7 as soon as possible; if this is not possible, you can simply use the updated global.php and search.php from this version to obtain the security fix. These files are also attached below. You should use these files to overwrite the files of the same name in your main vBulletin directory. vBulletin 3 is not affected by the problems fixed in this release. Backing up forums Please be sure to check your backups, that they are complete before continuing with an upgrade. We had reports that PHP was causing time out errors when creating the back up SQL, and this was causing for incomplete or corrupted backups. The safest way to do a backup is to use the mysqldump utility through telnet, as it will not suffer from any such problems. Full instructions for backing up your database are available in the vBulletin 3 Manual. Installation / Upgrade Instructions These are available in the Members' Area. Template Changes No templates have changed between 2.3.6 and 2.3.7. Files Changes (from 2.3.6)

Yep, they sure do! For some people there isn't a massive incentive to update. WebHostingTalk, one of the most 'famous' vB powered sites, is still on v2.3.x

I guess because it would require alot to upgrade... I dont know... or maybe because they like version 2.X.X more than the newest version 3.X.X.....

There are some advantages to using vB 2.3.x, as opposed to 3.0.x
One of those is the fact that it is alot easier to upgrade as far as custom hacks are concerned, as there are a lot less files to be modified... I also find vB 2.3.x and earlier easier to modify than 3.0.x, then thats because I learnt to code on vB 2 and have never really had at it with vB3 Also, if you have a site as large as WebHostingTalk, the work involved with upgrading it would take days to get ready, and its not worth it just yet Satan |

Whilst I'm on vB3 and have been since the first Gold release, I can see why some prefer 2, it does have a certain character and style to it that 3 does not have...3 has a character, but it is different and some prefer the earlier one.
