Im trying to figure it out, so when my images are hotlinked, people will know which site it came from.

You can use mod_rewrite to pick up on requests for jpg/gif/png etc from an external referrer and then redirect the requests to watermark.php?x=<requested filename> or similar, where you watermark images of appropriate sizes etc.
Have a quick google for the end of your term in your thread title and you'll no doubt come across plenty of resources. |

Or you can redirect ALL image request to the watermark.php, but open pictures in watermark.php using fopen (dont forget to check URL and request format).

You are asking for higher server load in addition to the bandwidth they are leeching, in other words its double trouble because the hotlinker may decide to keep the images up no matter how you watermark them.
