However, if you think about, the ad should open in a new window. Not doing so steals your traffic.
This will not change though unless lot's of people write google and say the policy is bad and until there is contextual ad competition such as MSN and Yahoo.
I can't wait for the playing field to level out and the publishes have a choice if google stays arrogant.
I remember a hack making all external links open in a new window - if you don't modify the google code, but make ANY link open in a new window, do you think that's a prob?
I seem to remember this discussion over in webmasterworld a while back, where a senior google employee hangs out. If I remember correctly, the googleguy's response was that it was NOT ok to have the ads open in a new window, even though that is exactly what happens in gmail. Try searching for that old thread over in webmasterworld or to be on the safe side, contact adsense and check with them directly.
