Do styles & themes are seamless for hacks?
Do styles & themes are seamless for hacks? That is, when I install various themes, styles, or skins (whatever the name-of-the-day is), and install hacks, or modifications, will the hacks/mods inherit the selected themes?
Can I load them in any order, or do I have to first load the themes, then the hacks/modifications, or reverse (hacks/mods first, then themes)? I understand graphics will need to be uploaded separately, as such. Thank you. |

All depends on what? So there is a default style, and all hacks will work with that, but if I added say "Purple", "Smooth Blue", and "Stylish Green" styles, then I would have to adjust each style to work with the hacks, and/or modify the hacks themselves? I thought styles were "managed" through Style Manager, and StyleVars. Do hacks use hardcoded styles, or all inherit the board's style, or some do, some do not? (Side Question but relating to style: Can all the message headers (author, date posted, etc.), and such moved to the right side instead of the left side?) |

With hacks and styles, you may have to do all the template edits for a hack. The php file edits and database changes are common no matter what style you use. Generally the templates change though.
And if you edit the postbit or postbit_legacy template yes, you can move the user info to the right of a post. |

How the vB Style System Works - A Short Treatise by Kall
You have a parent style. You add child styles to that parent style. You make a change to a template in the parent style, all child styles with UNMODIFIED versions of that template inherit the changes. ie: If I have modified showthread_quickreply in one of my 5 child styles but not the other 4, and I then make a change to showthread_quickreply in my parent style, the 4 styles with unmodified showthread_quickreply will inherit the changes but the changed one will not. So, if you have some mega-funky style with lots of changed templates (see my site for example), it will not inherit any changes made to the templates of the parent style that are modified within it. |
