Ok I'm ready to start to learn about vb styles as I want to change the look and feel to our forums, I have just downloaded the frost style from here and there were two zip files, one contained al the graphics and the other a .xml file which looks like it has all the templates and stuff, what program was used to create this .xml file, I have searched on here but unable to find anything, any help would be great

The XML was created by vBulletin.

Enter your admincp and browse to

Styles & Templates -> download/upload style

This page will allow you to upload the .xml to the board, which will create a new style with the templates/style vars. Or you can download an exisiting style from your board, this will create an .xml file for you.

thanks for the reply, not going to be as easy as I thought, I was hoping that there was a program that did it for you, do you or anybody else have any tips on what software I can purchase and use to help me in my wuest in building my first style, we have photoshop which I guess is a start for the graphics, is there a template editor out there or is it done by plain text

This will help you wrap your mind around vBulletins template/style engine:

Photoshop will work find for your graphics work, most use that or paintshop pro. As for the templates themselves they are just a mix of xhtml/javascript/vBulletin conditionals. Most any editor will work for editing vB templates even notepad, personaly I use Editplus for such things. Editplus is free to use forever, altho i've bought a copy of it after using it freely for years.

If you just want to change the colors, that can be done without template modification, check out this page:

Once again thanks for the resonse, I guess changing colours and mabe some of graphics would go along way to making the board feel different, I will have a read through the links you provided
