Default Hello, I have a question about vBulletin

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not to put this in, but feel free to move it or redirect me to the correct spot if it is not.

Anyway, I really would like to host my board with vBulletin. Honestly, I think this is the best board hosting place I have seen yet.

My board I have currently is on phpBB.com. The thing is that I noticed something that phpBB offers that I'm not sure if vBulletin does.

Basically, I have my own web hosting provider. I also have a SQL database as well as an FTP program. At phpBB, they let you download the needed files for one's board and then using an FTP program, upload the files manually to the hosting provider.

Really, I do not need another host for my board. I already have one. And from what I've read, vBulletin is a board hosting service.. Right?

So what I'm asking is, is there a way I can just download the nescessary files to my web hosting provider using an FTP program? I really do not need another host when I already have one.

Plus, I am getting a little fed up with phpBB when it comes to support. They do not seem to offer very good support. Like when my board was down for two weeks and I bearly got any help towards why it was down and how to fix it for example. I had to figure it out on my own. Modifications/Hacks is another thing as well.

You see, I host a religious board, and when I saw the modifications/hacks for phpBB boards, there was only one modification/hack providable for a religious board, which in my case, wasn't enough. And it was not even that good.

I really would like to switch from phpBB to vBulletin, which from what I can tell is possible. But back to my question, must I host my board here on vBulletin? Or can I just download the necessary files needed to create a board and start from scratch manually like I did on phpBB with my own hosting provider?

Nope - vBulletin isn't a hosting service it is an installable forum like phpBB that you run on your own server except it's not free. Check out vBulletin.com to get the details on purchasing the software and for more info on it.

Like True.Rooster said, vBulletin actually doesn't offer a hosting service.

When you buy vBulletin you can download the needed files and then upload these to your webspace.

Also, be aware that while vBulletin offers extremely good support, your right to that support is void once you modify the source code, which needs to be done to install most modifications.

Thank you both!

I'm going to see if I can purchace a licence for it and buy it sometime. However I have just a couple other questions I was wondering..

I noticed that for the $160 licence, it said 50+ $106 in the dropdown menu. What exactly does that mean? The 50+ I mean. I only need/want one licence.

Also, does it say somewhere what kinds of credit cards are allowed to be used when pruchacing vBulletin? You see, my father is the one who handles buying things online, and he does not have a paypall account. He only purchaces things using credit cards. So what kinds of credit cards can he use?

One more thing, if I purchace vBulletin via online, am I able to get my customer number and information right away and start using vBulletin? Or do I have to wait a few days until I get that information?

The 50+ means that if you buy over 50 licenses at the same time, each will only cost 106$.
The price for one license is 160$ for an owned license and 85$ for a leased license.

If you go through the order process until the payment page you'll see what options you have.
I recognize Visa and MasterCard, and there two others.

If you need more information about ordering, I'd suggest you ask in the pre sales forum at vBulletin.com, as the staff there is better qualified to answer such questions
