As I have looked through these forums I have searched for the past year for a CMS package. The requirements are to work with VBulletin and work with the 7 domains I have linked into my sites and possible others in the future. So I wanted the BB and the CMS to share and post based on the category that was set.
So while we are upgrading to VB 3.0 we are also upgrading our CMS package. We have choosen Mambo for the power and features it brings to the table. The problem that always seems to come up is NO interface is been developed between VB 3.0 and Mambo 4.5 (latest version). So I have hired a developer to develop the interface between the two with the following requirements * items posted thru mambo should be available thru vB as well * comments posted thru mambo should be available in vB as well * a new thread is created in vB when a new item is created in mambo * one login for both pages * security levels should work together nicely. * items posted in Mambo will post to the VB forum thread based on categories set in Mambo So why am I posting this here. Well the way I see it if others want this too maybe it would bring down the cost for all of us. |

That's a lot of work. I've been looking for only a simple login that use the same user database with no luck. Though there is one at bbpixel or something, it has lots of problems with the import.
I guess any complicated integration like yours won't come out in at least a year or so. |

OK as an update we are hopefully a few days away from launching our new site with VB 3.0 and Mambo the latest released version. We are only trying to finish some things not related to this piece before we turn the sites on live. For the record I paid about $250 for this work to be done. The way I got this done was through these guys and they customized what they sell to meet my requirements. So here you go enjoy www.bbpixel.com. My thoughts were if we all ask them to add features then we all can benifit from the work.

Way to go. I have used the bbpixel services several times now. I cannot fault them, they have always installed/upgraded without loss of data and very little downtime.
I believe that we should keep asking them to add additional functionality to the integration, particularly if they can enable upgrades of either part (mambo or vb) without having to re-do the synching or code changes. By this I mean developing and integration module that is independant of the two products, and 'sits' between them, performing whatever actions are required. Geoffrey |

Maybe using RSS / XML Import & Export would keep your two systems synched without concerns about changes on either end. There already exist a lot of vbulletin import & export tools.

The only thing stopping me from using Mambo is that I dont want 2 different user databases.
The hacks I have seen at this moment just seem to sync both user databases which seems an inefficent way of doing things to me. I would be prepared to pay for a hack that made Mambo authenticate from my Vb database. |
