2 Questions, Avatars & Colors

Hello Vb People,
I have a couple of issues on my board which are making me crazy.

1) Avatars uploads are being funky. When new members wish to add a new avatar to their profile they have 2 options in the UserCP, they can supply a web-address, or they can upload from their local machine. At one point, this was completely broken, though I found out through my host that I needed a "tmp" directory. I created this and it semi-solved my problem. I have now successfully used both of these options (web address / upload). Though both timeout and cannot perform the function after 2 minutes of loading, about 9 out of 10 times. What could this problem be??

The error message I get is:

Connection Closed by Remote Server

2) My colors are showing wierd. In the userCP, avatar screen, profile screen, private message screens & others it looks bugged. It'll show one color for about 70% of the screen, and another color for the bottom 30%. (the bottom color is the one I specified).

Oh & also sometimes once I successfully get one of those options to work, I try to save changes & it says this

There has been an error in the upload. Please ensure that the file has been correctly selected and that the upload has taken place successfully.

I see you've both been sitting on this thread a while. I just wanted to say thanks for giving my problem your time, even if you can't find a solution. I appreciate you looking into it.

Its because you are using an image that does not repeat and the background color does not match the ending graident.

Ok, I don't know what you mean by "using an image that does not repeat" since I'm not using any image. The only images I'm using is for my logo and buttons. Also, what is an "ending gradient" I don't see that anywhere in the styles editor.

Any clue on how to fix my Avatar problem?

Anyone want to offer to fix this as a paid job? I'm so frusterated, I just need someone to take care of it.
