you have to hack it, as it's not doable with plain vb.
search through the modification requests, i think it has been posted there as an answer |

Thanks. I sorta figured that might be the case...
Can anyone suggest a relatively simple hack for this? Is it something the vB team might want to consider as a "feature request"? ;-) The ability to make posts "sticky" would provide a means for Admins/Moderators to post "welcome" messages, "thread rules', "thread topic statement" or other "required" information at the thread level that would be non-optionally seen by any visitor to that thread regardless of the post-order mode they have selected. This is quite different from "announcements" which are only visible at the forum level and viewing is optional to users. (Announcements are often missed entirely by regular users who tend to click on the "new posts" link and, therefore, only see a thread listing. Besides, people tend to ignore or miss the announcements generally.) |

Daz91-
Yes, announcements do stay at the top, but only in the Forums listing. They are not visible at the thread level. The other issue is that viewing of Announcements is strictly optional. There are times when I need to be able to make some bit of information non-optionally viewable. Here is an example. I want to set up a Forum area devoted to information, reviews and discussion of various merchants. A separate thread would be created for each merchant. In each of these threads I will post a message that contains the merchant's basic information such as name, address, phone numbers, website URLs, etc. I also need to specify the "rules" for writing reviews, etc. It is very important that this information always be the first thing a viewer sees when they go to this thread (whether they want to or not). It sets the topic, theme and organizational principles of the thread. The ability to make a post "sticky" would be a wonderful management tool to make anything like this possible and easily done. I can think of many other examples of how a "sticky post" would be useful, too. |

Xeon-
After searching through the hacks here, I could not find any that worked or were otherwise suitable for "sticky posts". It appears that there is a need for this, however. It would certainly solve a lot of problems. Perhaps this should be a "feature request" for a future upgrade?? All those in favor, say "Aye"! ;-) Thanks |
