Our company is interested in purchasing VBulletin. However, we would like to have a chat room feature. What add-ons are possible with this program?

I'm using Flashchat, a flash-based chatroom that costs $5 (with free upgrades for life) and has built in vB integration.

You can also use a frontend to connect to an IRC server, or use a special software like digichat. IRC is free, but you generally don't have as much control over it, digichat on the other hand is for sites with a bigger budget.
