Hey everyone, I am new to vBs and really websites in general. I did a lot of research about Message Boards and I really wanted to get the best board money could buy. I looked at a lot of free message boards becuase I didn't want to waist money. EZBoards, Yabb, and all the other normal free boards came up. And then I was like, none of them have what I want. So I checked out some paid boards. Two came to mind when I did this ... UBB or vB. UBB I am guessing is your biggest rival, and I picked you, do you want to know why? I think a lot more pireted verisons of UBB are out then vB, along with I belive with what I want vB are much more customable. I just don't know any HTML yet really hehe, but I will learn. So After I bought a vB, I had to pick a domain.
I knew I wanted my site to do something with Zelda Games, "TheLegendofZelda.com" is oviosuly already taken, I came down to two names ZeldasWorld.com and LinksWorld.com or something along them lines. But then as a joke, thinking it would already be taken I typed in "TheLegendofLink.com" and it was avalibe, I was really shocked but that night I bought it. Then the same night I bought an F5 hosting account for my hosting and right now I am in the process of waiting for the domain to click over to the hosting, but I have a TEMP URL, so if I get board before then I can upload a vB. What I am posting this for is what do you guys think of the name? And also, I don't know if I am aloud to ask this, but are there any Zelda fans here that would like to join the Staff of my website/forums and help me make this the #1 Zelda based board out there. I really could use the help with graphics and making a website. However I think hacking should be easy enough, you just follow the instuctions, but I don't know how to "Make my own hacks" but either way if you are interested reply. Also tell me what you think of my idea. My idea is this, take every Zelda game and give it a forum, then people could talk about them, I think I'll also have some sections on Movies, Music, Sports, and Enteraiment based things, just so if your not a Zelda fan you can join. And of course we will talk about upcoming games that fit Zelda and other ones as well. However here is what I really want, and I have no idea if it's possible. I am going to use a vB3 becuase it's the newest verison. I want some type of "Battling or Item based battling system" Where you can get, arrows, a hookshot, and all the other famous items in Zelda games, leval up, change swords and whatnot, and then battle other people on the baord, I think that would be really freaking cool, however I have no idea how to do any of that ![]() Anyways tell me what you think. I hope this is in the right space. Again if you would like to help in any way, either PM me or reply or do whatever. - TheLegendofLink.com |

Hey first of all welcome to the great community that is vBulletin.org. I myself used to be a Zelda fanatic, and now faced with the problem of time I still enjoy to get into the odd hour or so of Zelda if I can.
TheLegendofLink.com is a good name, explains exactly what it is and a very good search target with the right care, and time I can see this site being very popular. Since you are new a little bit of advice it will take time (you probably already know this) it seems like a good idea, and just keep pushing forward. If you wish to learn a bit more about web development check out SitePoint.com by far the best resource I know for web development information, tutorials and good daily reads especailly if you plan to be in this field for awhile. Also check out the SitePointForums alot of the people there can help you with the webdevelopment aspect of your site, including new technologies such as xml, xhtml, and programming our own vBulletin uses, so you can get familiar with the coding structure of vBulletin ![]() Also there are a couple of RPG hacks as you described released for the version 2 of vBulletin including stores where people can buy items and can battle, you can easily modify the items that come along and add your own images. For vB3 I am not 100% sure if there are any RPG-based hacks released that are bug-free and user-friendly (keeping in mind that you are new to this area). Anyways welcome, and good luck and you can be sure I will join ![]() Edit There has been a large request for the RPG hack keep your eye on the vB3 Beta Releases forum for early beta releases most of the RPG hacks due to the large size of them are released there before final release. |

I'm a big Zelda fan myself.
I cannot say more than Arunan said already. Welcome to our community, we hope you will become a regular member soon, and with more experinece maybe we see some hacks by you ![]() As for your site, Arunan said already, it has potential, but you should not expect a too fast growth. You have to prepare a lot of things, before you can see it growing. A bulletin board is the backbone of your site, but you will have to create articels/reviews and a lot of content to the site, before you can expect a lot of users just coming to your forum and diskussing about the games ![]() |

Forgot to say, what I have yet to find on a Zelda site (I would probably find it if I searched harder) is proper and well layed out articles on the games, and remember in the articles include alot of MEDIA because when it comes to it people like pretty things ![]() |

Well really with a great Co-Owner or partner I could make a good site, I have no graphic or coding experiance, and I think it would be much better to take someone else on to help me, so if you are interested please contact me. I think it's a great domain as well, and with the right Admins it could be by far the best Zelda site out there. I just need the help of people who want to be a part of this. I have talked to a couple people and for what I want, it would be better just to have the admins do the work and not pay tons of money, b/c if we get the good site, were going to need money to get better hosting after the site grows and what not, but I am still thinking about just paying someone. So yeah, if you want to be a part of the Staff I guess you could call it at www.TheLegendofLink.com (URL should be working now) ... please either reply or PM me. I need all the help I can get.
Thanks again for all the help so far guys, this place is great. - TheLegendofLink.com |

I'd be willing to put some time in to help you out, as my site is already starting to level out at only a mere 350 users. I'm getting more experienced in coding PHP and I know HTML as well as anyone. I don't know if you're interested in my help, but I'm offering anyway. ![]() I'd also like to point out that if you're looking to start a large site quickly, the key is getting your name out there. (Or, moreover, the name of your SITE) Generating hits is the number 1 concern of webmasters, and, unless you're a major hub site like FilePlanet or GameSpy, it can be quite a challenge. I strongly recommend against standard advertising -- 98% of people ignore ads on websites, and 2% is a small number no matter how you look at it. Try not to create a community where "everyone knows everyone" because that's what caused my site to start to fail. Nobody really sees reason to talk except to gossip, because my first instinct was to tell everyone I knew about my site. Now it's almost all people from within my city on there, and that's causing other people to look at my site and say "why would I fit there?" I'd also recommend having a definite goal of what you want your site to become. You already have this, which is good, because when I started my site, it was almost just for the sake of having something to work on in my spare time. I had no real goal in mind. vBulletin, at the time, was avaliable to me "illegally"... So I used it as the backbone. An email from NukePirates, Jelsoft's contracted Pirate-Hunters ![]() I strongly suggest that before you launch, you find a way to get your name out. Advertising is a good way, even if it is overlooked by most... If you find the right places to advertise, you might just get a couple hundred hits. All it takes is trying and not losing hope. ![]() So... Yeah. That's my story. ![]() |
