Advertising installs as paid service...cool or not?

A question: Is it okay for me to have a section on my site that states prices for installing vB and installing hacks to that vB?

I ask because I have had a couple of requests of late to install things on other people's boards, and just want to know whether there are any legal guidelines I have to follow.

eg: Can I advertise that I will install vB for $x? Or that I will install the Arcade hack on a fresh install of vB for $y?

Eh, regardless of the fact that i work for jelsoft you shouldnt compeate with vBulletin for installs and or upgrades (minus specail cases). Thats just my feelings on it, you can probaly advertise hack instaltion on your site with out any worrys though

It all depends on the maker of the hack dosent it?

Maybe the maker of the hack dosent want you to make money of installing their own hack on boards?

You should check with the owner first I imagine

@Musicpill: If a hack author doesn't want people to benefit financially from the installation of their hack, then they should provide that service themselves. But, you do make a point.

Maybe I'll just go with a more ambiguous 'We specialise in vBulletin installations/hack installs and can assist you if required' advisory.

Since you are Jelsoft staff have you checked to make sure the above quote is correct?
As Dean C says you can offer whatever service you like as long as it is legal. If not allowing people to offer an install service is in fact Jelsoft policy then I stand corrected. However as you represent Jelsoft you should check the facts before you make statements as above.

Offering to install vB itself does not go against anything Jelsoft, that I can see.. Jelsoft offers the service, but that doesn't grant them exclusivity to the software installation process.. That's up to the person who buys the license..

Speaking independently from my moderator position (seems I need a disclaimer now), I feel you can rightly advertise a service that competes with Jelsoft's installation service. There is no way such a service could have a value of $135 given it takes about ten minutes and the procedure virtually never changes.

go for it kall, you might get a few offers for upgrades on paid boards, besides as filburt said, $135 for an install is a bit expensive but people who want peace of mind and guarantees, but alas i don't think you're entitled to a jelsoft upgrade on a modified database.
