"View New Posts" Error
Hi all...
First of all, I don't know if this is the correct place for this, so mods feel free to move it as you see fit... Anyways... There have been a few instances where there have been some issues with the "View New Posts" link in my board... You know the one, which calls for the getnew query... Anyways, apparently, sometimes some users will come to the board and there will be new posts displayed...eg...There have been X new threads and X new posts since your last visit...Yet when they click the "View New Posts", the search results say that there have been no new posts, even though there have been! This has happened alot especially for one member, and as he is visually impaired it is very difficult and tedious for him to peruse the board forum by forum to find new posts, as sometimes there can be a fair number of them... Now, as far as I know, the users do have cookies enabled, and are using valid cookies to browse the boards...I have my cookies set to 1800 seconds, which should be plenty... I just don't understand why it is doing what it is doing...Does anybody know what the problem could be, and perhaps have any fixes or ideas? I am running a fairly highly modded/hacked version 2.2.6...(yes, I know I should upgrade, I have the files, I just don't have the time...)...I don't know if the version has anything to do with it, but just in case... I also didn't know if the fact that it is modded or not would determine whether I should post this here or over @VB.com, so I am going to post in both... Thanks in advance for anything you can do... |

if any of the new posts are in a forum they are not allowed to view, then they will see there is a new thread/post, but when clicking on the link, they will get no results as it's a search and it's matching viewing permissions per usergroup, afaik..

According to the members who have had the problem, it is not a permissions issue...
The posts that are new are in full publicly accessible forums... That was one of the first responses that I gave as well, but it was not the answer... Thanks anyways... Anyone else have any idea? |

Are they possibly not clicking the button for a while? Such as logging on, letting time pass by so that the messages become marked as read, and then when they hit the button they aren't able to retrieve any new posts.

Apparently not...That was another thing that I thought of right off the bat as well, but no luck...
They visit the site, and click the link right away...and still nothing... |

The best place for this would probably be in the vB3 Hack Requests forum
I would say General Hacking Discussion, but I guess it's gone in the time I've been away Edit: After searching around, I found "General Modification Discussion" - Guess it got renamed Satan |
