Default How do I upload changes to the search.php?

I am a newbie in this vbulletin stuff and I know that this is a basic question that 99% of users know. Count me as the 1%

I have made changes to the search.php. Basically I wanted to hack the "View New Posts" so that it will submit all the posts for the last week submitted.

I kind of figured out how to do this. I found the search.php file in the /vbulletin/upload/ directory. I editted it and then saved it. I expected the search to update in the forum but it did not.

I have been informed that I need to ftp the files, but where do I ftp them to and how exactly should I do this to be safe?

Thanks for your help and patience!

First i want to know if you changed it in vB2 or vB3?

you would need to upload this file to your webserver for it to kick in.

but vBulletin 3 already has a feature to get posts from any time frame in it.

I am running vB2.2.7. I did not install this. About 4 weeks ago I was assigned to be the administrator. I am trying to learn quickly! To borrow a line from Shultz of Hogan's Heroes, "I know nothing!"

Grab an FTP client for FTP'ing. I recommend Filezilla, being #1 FTP at Sourceforge.net:

I might completely misunderstand, but I can successfully connect to the computer that is serving. I found the search.php file in the /vbulletin/upload/ directory. I made the changes there and then saved. But these changes are not effecting vbulletin. Do I need to move this file to the "working" directory?

I can download the filezilla, but I already have a working ftp tool that I use. Maybe it's not sufficient?

Thanks for your replies and assistance with this!

You can close this post because I finally figured it out (I am a little slow). I was editting a .php in the directory \vbulletin\upload\ of the server. I was doing this by connecting to the server remotely. Obviously this was not making the change. I had to copy the file into the \Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\ directory.

Seems basic I know. Like I said before, I can be a little slow!!
