Default vbulletin.com down?

First: Sorry for cross-posting but due to whatever reason this board told me I have no access rights to reply to a thread which I started a couple of hours ago.

My issue:

I am a registered, licensed customer of vBulletin (do have my customer no. etc.). Unfortunately I cannot access vBulletin.com or any URLs starting with www.vbulletin.com/... .

In another thread somebody has answered that this might be due to access blocking because of the latest attacks on vbulletin.com. I should mail support@vbulletin.com and send over my IP address.

I am a DSL user in Germany and we do use dynamic IP addresses, so I cannot provide Support with a static IP address.

My main concerns are:
Most of the vBulletin partner sites require that I indicate being a registered, licensed user. Unfortunately I currently cannot complete the steps necessary to proceed because I can't access the vbulletn homepage.

Any help? Any idea?

Best regards
Ralf

That sucks. Since the license form is hosted at vb.com, my only suggestion is emailing one of the vb.com support staff, and get them to verify your status manually here.

People who have dynamic IP's can access vbulletin.com via Proxies

I dont know what ranges were banned, so i cant provide you with a proxy, but there are many, however, my IP begins with 194 (no peeking - you damn moderators ) and i have absolutly no problem accessing vbulletin.com...so get yourself a proxy list via google and get working

How can we tell our I.P's been banned. The page is still not loading for me. Is there any news on how hunting down these ppl who are doing the DDOS attacks is going?

I hope they find them soon cos I really want to download Vbulletin soon :-(

Btw the smilies aren't working? Does anyone know why I click on the smilies I want and it just takes me to the top of the page I'm using IE 6 SP1

I just have received an email with a solution to my problem. So vBulletin support still works fine. Unfortunately I guess I am not allowed to post the solution here, so you've got to wait for "your" reply.

Anyway, I think it might make sense to have a sticky announcement here, outlining the process of how to gain access.

I just upgraded to RC1 and vBulletin still is the best bulletin system on the planet.

Regards
and thanks for all your help.
Ralf

You certainly haven't been able to access vbulletin.com for several days from Australia.

I was wanting to purache a licence this week & I'm not impressed.

@gtoomy:
The current situation is not very impressive but it is *not* related to any technical problems. It's merely a communication issue which vBulletin in my holy opinion does not handle well.

I try to clarify for all those desperately trying to purchase licenses or getting updates:

1. vBulletin.com has been hit by a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Somebody keeps on sending an overwhelmingly mass of requests to their webserver which cannot be handled. Therefor they have blocked most IP ranges to access port 80 on their webserver.

2. If you do want access you should write an email to support@vbulletin.com which includes your IP address so they will specificly grant access for you. I had a problem with this "solution" because as a German DSL subscriber I am not on a static IP address, so mine keeps chaning every day.

3. There is a workaround available which would allow you to access vBulletin.com and all its functions and the member area even if you have a currently blocked IP address. Usually support@vbulletin.com is answering within a couple of hours - and they did when I asked them for help.

Should you not get any feedback from them, please PM me *here* and I will help you.

By the way: vBulletin still is the best web based forum system out there and I would never ever recommend to go for any (free) forum system if you plan to use it in any professional environment.

I don't understand why the vBulletin team does not communicate exactly *this* on www.vbulletin.com for blocked users. I understand the entire issue and their measurements, but I do not think, their communication is ideal.

Best regards
Ralf

This is very far from ideal...what about people who do not read here, or are just getting vBulletin recommended? There must be some solution to a denial of service attack, or they could keep them down forever.
