Actually if you really want to know why Microsoft makes more secuirty releases than Linux or Mac it is because evenyone is using Windows. If everyone was using Linux, Linux would be in the same boat. Hackers/Crackers do not try to find security risks inside Mac or Linux because most people don't use them and their targets are probably people who don't know about the computer anyways.
So overall I have to say if people used Linux more often I believe that we might find a lot of Linux bugs but since 90% of people use Windows and Microsoft that is where we find all kinds of bugs but I will not deny that Linux and Mac are more advanced that Windows probably ever could be it is just no one uses them thus no one really writes anything for them.

I'm going to have to make fun of this statement though. IE yes they made up there own guidelines and guess what, those guidelines make it a pain the the butt for people writing HTML because you got Microsoft HTML and W3C HTML. Only one browser follow Microsoft HTML while the rest follow W3C HTML.
