Depends on what kind of RPG MB you want and how far you're willing to go.
Most RPG requests or hack topics don't last very long around here, for whatever reason. Perhaps it's because of the limited exposure and most owners of vBulletin do not want to turn their forum into a video game. Regardless, there are some excellent hacks here that can be modified to fit your needs. The ItemShop v5.0 is an excellent start, as is Drax's Title Class Hack. There are some RPG Post Bit hacks with Magic Points and Hit Points based on how many posts per day you make. Something I never used or looked at. Personal choice I suppose. There's a Battle System RPG Hack by BitSys that is very, very popular but I think it leans towards the Final Fantasy crowd more than your general RPG fanatic. I would stay away from giving members points per post but rather, give it to them based on how many days they've been registered. So perhaps, 10 or 100 per day registered. I've written the code for it but I don't know how to go about doing a CRON JOB (I think that's what I was told to do) because you cannot update a members profile if they're not online, so if they get 100 points per day and don't log in for three days, they miss out on getting 300 points because they were not online. Anyhow, I'm getting off the topic here. I suggest to do a search for RPG and see what comes up but the ones mentioned above are a good start. There are other hacks that will help you bring your RPG forum to life, it all depends on how you go about using them or changing them to fit your own needs. I run my own RPG forum so I have no problem getting into a discussion with you about it, or anyone else who wants to join. ![]() Syl... |

User fields can be added through the Admin CP. Not a problem there.

I'm not familiar with any Harry Potter RPG boards but this is how mine works.
I give each member gold based on how long they've been a member. The longer they've been part of the community, the more gold they will have gained. It's broken down by Total Experience. A member receives 100xp per day for being registered, plus 1xp for every post they make. This makes the Total Experience. A new member automatically receives 350gp when they join the forum and will only get gold when they go up a level and they start at 100 Total Experience when they join. The next level is 1,000xp, which breaks down to (100xp per day = 10 days to level up). Of course, they can gain a level quicker if they participate on the forum, but making 10 posts isn't going to do much since they gain more experience per day than they would by posting. I found that offering gold per post defeated the purpose of rewarding long standing members who may not post as much as the new member who spams to get gold. So loyalty to the forums is rewarded instead of post whoring. At 1,000xp, they receive 950gp and so on, up and up it goes. The gold they earn is then used to purchase equipment and of course, the more powerful items cost more gold, which means to purchase them, you have to be a member for a longer period of time vs. the new member who can only afford non-magical items with the 350gp they get upon registration. That's where those who are members of the forum can tell who's been around the longest. The more expensive items they own, the more gold they've obviously received, thus the longer they've been a part of the community. As well, a member can select a Character Race and Character Class and mold the items they purchase around their Race and Class as they see fit. There's about 200+ items available for purchasing so there's enough variety for everyone The only thing post count matters for is a personal portrait, which is at 201 posts. There are two main story forums. One is controled by a Dungeon Master (or Game Master) which is used to introduce new members to the role playing forum with a one on one situation. Other new members may also be paired up with another newer member, so friendships are created as they adventure together with the Dungeon Master. It's a lot like "play by e-mail" games, except on a forum where the Dungeon Master describes your surroundings and you react to it, all in written form of course. The second is an open for all adventure forum, where it keep tracks of all adventures in that forum. Members have the ability to mark each thread with Invite Only, All Welcome, Guild Specific, Completed, etc to let others know where each adventure thread stands. Complete adventures are moved to another part of the forum where one can only read the story. Each completed adventure is kept track of, so if you have 2 completed adventures, it knows this and displays it in your post-bit as well as any on-going adventures you're still taking part in. It's a complex system, created over three years and originally started on the UBB 5 Series forum but writing features in PHP was a lot easier on me than doing it in Perl and I switched to vBulletin where many of the RPG features really took off. If it's an RPG forum you want, vBulletin can certainly support it. It's all how creative you want to be. Look forward to seeing what you can do with it since there are not many RPG forums around or RPG fans running vBulletin, or at least not on vBulletin.org ![]() Syl... |

I think I like how you give out gold, but
I would do 10xp points a day and 2perpost because that helps stop people registering and getting alot of points for being there long and never posting. For posting forums I think Im set. First I think I will install the store and rpg hacks which take along time ... Yeah, Im glad im opening an RPG forum I love to rpg. I hope oneday to open an rpg like materiamagica |
