I have a problem on my site of members bookmarking the forums and coming straight to Vbulletin rather than going through the main site homepage and seeing my news and content.
Could anyone suggest a bit of javascript (or php?) that would redirect them to another page on their first visit to the forums each day? I presume it would involve setting a cookie that goes stale after 24 hours. Each visit to the forums index would check if this cookie exists, and if not redirect or open a popup with the main site url. Even better would be a feature to stick a timestamp in the database each time I uploaded some new content to the website. Then they would only get redirected if the news had been updated and if they hadn't viewed it already that day. Hope someone can help! Meirion. |

This would require a hack. I'll move this to the Hacks Request forum for you.

How do you generate your news? I use Newspro on my front page, which generates a headlines.txt file of all the news in headlined links.
Using the #include statement, I pull that headlines.txt to the front page of my forum, so even if people bookmark the forum only, they will still see the news headlines. If they want to read something in the news headlines, the click the link and it directs them to the front page to that exact news location. Doing this, it forces them to see the headlines all the time but doesn't force them to read them if they do not want to. It's just a feature I added so members don't complain about changes they were unaware of. Now they have no excuse because they can clearly see the important news headlines all the time. Syl... |
