The archive hack and fastforwards will work togther as they are, you just need to change the links to the atcual forums and threads in the archive the the static url's.

Someone should make this a poll. I will be adding one of these soon and could use some help deciding.

IMO the way to go about it would be this, install fastforward's hack to turn the url's into static one's. On top of that install filburt's hack to strip the sessionhash, this makes it easyer for google-bot to spider the forums and threads on the board. Last but not least back the whole thing up with one of the archive hacks. I recomend TECK's personaly, ive used it and a few other of his hacks and they are all soild. Tho im sure skuzzy's and overgrow's are good to.

Anime-loo :

I understand that, both fastforward's hack and say TECK's or OverGrow's hack can exist together ( infact - fastforward himself uses Overgrow's hack along with his own - i read it in one of his posts ), but, I basically want the archiving hack to have the same URL's of the fastforward's hack instead of having its own static URL mechanism.

I mean, once fastforward's static url's hack is installed, i guess we'll not be seeing any session hashes in the URL's. If that is the case, would u suggest this a necessity to install.

Could you please explain in detail, how to do this ??

I am yet to install any of the hacks for SEO purposes, so, i should get it right from experienced ones here.

Thank you in advance

Cheers

I appreciate all of the informative and interesting conversations regarding forum spiderablility software...

I was wondering if a forum can install 2 of the archiving software programs (like VB Easy Archive and VBarchive) without being considered "spamming" a search engine?

The reason why I am mentioning this is because I am wondering if each of these two archive hacks might be more appealing to different search engines and will allow different thread results to be indexed.

I currently have VB Easy Archive installed, and I have had only 109 of the 600 threads listed in Google for the past 4 weeks (I installed the software in late June of this year, so it seems that after 1 1/2 months, Google is "stuck" on 109 threads in my forum )

I am also going to install Filbrt's hack, since it looks so easy to install and seems that it could only help.

Do you guys think that Google or other search engines will consider our website as spamming if we have two archives (with slightly different looks) on our website?

I would appreciate your feedback about this.

Khashyar - First of all no SE other than Google will drive quality traffic to your site for FREE ! Most of the Se's , you'll have to pay for incluysion, spidering, consider for inclusion and whatever.
So, lets primarily concentrate on Google here.

Why would you want to do this. i don't think two different SE's will need two types of archives and even if it matters, i am sure, you don't have to sacrifice Google for the other as others are almost of no use in terms of driving free traffic.

But, if u still wann go ahead and install two archiving hacks, I am afraid, google might percieve it as spamming. Now, once u are tagged as spammer by google, you are first out of Google index and it will take a lot of effort and a couple of yrs of convincing google that, you are actually not trying to spam. are you willing to take that risk...could be quite dangerous !?

What i am trying to request here is :
Install fastforwards' hack...which will actually convert all ur dynamic ur's to static url's. Now this will help your forums SE-Friendly ( anyone for that matter ). Now coupled with this is another archiving hack, which will actually have the URL's system of what fastforward's hack gives to pages.
So in effect, you end up having the archive with the URL's same as that given by fastforward's hack. No spamming...not to be scared also.

I wish, i knew how to integrate it myself, unfortunately, i am more of an ideas and strategies person and less of a techie... ( no coding knowledge )...hence i had to request this integration here.

Thanks if anyone can spare their valuable time and help us out with this integration.

Thank you very much !

Anyone know, which is the Archiving hack used by Fastforward at his Forums here ??

This hack differs in a way that, it actually seperately lists the threads that happened in different months of any given year !!!

Is that hack available for download at vb.org.

Thank you very much.

My personal preference is Overgrow's vbSpiderFriend because it doesn't require any ForceType/mod_rewrite directives and it requires virtually no messing with the standard vB code (none at all IIRC).

Works very nicely for me

Michael.
