Default Another Philosophical Question - Why Have Admins You Can't Trust?

I am constantly seeing hacks that limit the powers of admins for paranoid reasons. Prevent other admins from stealing your admin status, prevent other admins from doing this. Prevent them from doing that. I am stumped on this one. Why make somebody an admin if you do not trust them implicitly. The other thing is, why give another admin the password to mysql or to the ftp server? I don't believe that more than one person can efficiently hack a board. Two many cooks and all.

If by some obscure chance an admin did go nuts, I could still go into phpmyadmin and easily get my admin status back and remove theirs.

It's a very good question which i cannot answer
I never had more admins on my board...

just one thing could be a reason: sometimes you want some guy to do some work (templates for example) but not that the can edit users or something like, so that's a good reason for restricting adminrights.

Alot of borads do split the work over multiple admins, i know of a few that has a admin for code hacking, one for templates/ design, and others for misc reasons.

Ive always limited the access of other admin, even before the swarm of hacks where released, i trust no one.

I totally agree with you on this one. I have only one other Admin on my site and I trust him 110% (and I have a hard time trusting anyone). He helps with some hacks when he is around, which isn't too often because of his job.

I trust my co-admin 100%. I wouldn't make anyone other than him admin because he's my closest online friend and we've talked on the phone a few times. However i always have security in place. Just in case somehow someone gets access to his account.

I have 7 Senior admins and 5 Admins on my board, but none of them have access to my database. And limited access to vB Options Settings. It's not that I don't trust them - but I worry that they may accidentally do something that is irreversible.

I only have one admin. I would have more, but it's the only person that I have known for a while and trust.

There's nothing wrong with having 10 admins, just as long as you trust them. I also agree with your original post .. some of the hacks that put limits on admins are just stupid. The way I look at it is if you need such a hack, then that person shouldn't be an admin.

Either your a full admin or not.
Either your a full mod or not.

That's how i see it.. none of this 40% admin crap
