If your forum is on the same domain as your main website, you can check that the cookie "bbuserid" is set, if it is, that means that the user with the cookie's value is logged in.
I did this today on our site - Pages within the main site can check that the bbuserid cookie is set (i'm actually using ASP for this :disappointed: ): If bbuserid is NOT set: Display the login form embedded in the page, which submits the relevant information from the html form to member.php, to initiate a login. If bbuserid IS set: You know the user has been authenticated by vBulletin, and you can display the protected content. Have a look at this thread for more details about the form i used.
