Upgrading from 2.2.2 to 2.2.8, need advice, scared!
Ok,
So I hadn't planned on upgrading as I was waiting for vb3, now it seems vb3 will be an upgrade to vb2.2.8 or the latest version so I have to upgrade So I'm looking for advice on upgrading without screwing up all my hacks and modifications. What's the best way to do it? Upload all the files, run the upgrade scripts and then reinstall the hacks from scratch? Sounds like a b*tch? Or should I upload, run upgrade scripts and then use a file compare program to compare php files etc. and reinstall my hacks that way? Or something else I haven't thought of? I guess I should just upload .php files only as I won't want to lose my own .php files in my ./forum directory or my custom images etc. What about modified templates and custom styles, will they be overwritten? I could really use some direction here as my entire site is running from vb using vbIndex so I don't want to make a mess of this and have my site down for god know how long! TIA, G :rambo: (I have my backups done already) |

I was using 2.2.0 before I upgraded to 2.2.8 just two months ago. Mine was a little harder coz I had vBPortal
I rehacked it from scratch tho - just deleted the non-vB tables, ran the upgrade scripts, and incorporated the hacks again... |

Thanks for the replies.
The upgrade went well, a few small problems that need to be ironed out but otherwise, a success Thanks for the help :rambo: |

Just so you know, you don't need to be running 2.2.8 to upgrade to vB3.
What you will need to do is run all the upgrade scripts up to it. So if the final vB2 version is 2.2.9, then you would run upgrade16.php, upgrade17.php, upgrade18.php, upgrade19.php, upgrade20.php, upgrade21.php, upgrade22.php and then upload all the vB3 files. Done! There is no need to run the php files, you just need to run the upgrade scripts. |
