basically this is what I mean, Display who are the messages from :P

then when you click on the 1 new msg link it takes you to your Inbox, but when you click on the username it takes you directly to the IM that the member sent. All I am focused right now is getting the senders name.

I did this with phpbb, but for the life of me I can't do it for vbulletin :ermm:
