Has this been done? If so can someone tell me what the name of the hack/mod is?

If you put your mouse over the threads, it will show you the contents of the first post under that thread! I think that is pretty cool and could save lots of time while browsing.

You could probably do this by somehow adding another text field into the new thread part of the forum and assigning a variable to it. Then in the templates you would put alt="$variable name" with the <A href></a> tags for the links to the threads.
