Contacting A Webmaster
Well... Here goes... I found that private photos taken of my by ex is now showing up on a adult website... but there is no way for me to delete the photos.. Also.. there is no way to contact anyone from the site to have them do it... I've searched and searched... I thought I would sign up here and maybe you guys would be the experts at this and point in the right direction... What I found so far is that site seems to be hosted by Godaddy.com and photos are hosting by Photopost
can anyone help.... Thank you for any help you might give me...
PS I can give details if you need me to... |

I suggest you first file a copyright claim under 17US106 "Exclusive Copyright" for pictorial or photographic works.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/106 You can find out how and where to file your claim here: https://www.godaddy.com/legal/agreem...t-infringement |

If the pictures are hosted/located on the forum itself and not by a third party host then your best bet would be to contact the hosting company in question by following the link posted by In Omnibus. If the hosting company also refuses to take action then you might have to take legal action against the hosting company or the owner of the forum.
I don't know the context of the pictures but it could be classified as "revenge porn" of which almost every state has laws against. The following can help victims: https://www.cybercivilrights.org/revenge-porn-laws/. You might want to reach out to them by phone. See https://www.cybercivilrights.org/victim-services/ Here more information on the laws by state: https://criminal.findlaw.com/crimina...-by-state.html Unfortunately you have to keep in mind that once something appears on the internet, it will likely remain there forever. You don't know how many people made copies or spread it somewhere else. |

carolina1951, use this to look up the website domain information: http://whois.domaintools.com/
Often, you can find contact info. If the website's owner info is private under WHOIS Protection, there should at least be host contact info, example, from 1 of my NameCheap domains: Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.namecheap.com Registrar URL: http://www.namecheap.com Updated Date: Creation Date: Registrar Registration Expiration Date: Registrar: NAMECHEAP INC Registrar IANA ID: 1068 Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@namecheap.com Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.6613102107 In this case, reach out to abuse@namecheap.com. If they are hosted with a different host, and that may be possible, look for the "IP Location" and "ASN" information. It might state which web hosting they are with: GoDaddy, NameCheap, Hostgator, DreamHost, etc. From there, you can get to the host's website and find the contact information as well. |

It's possible to contact the abuse email address that is listed on the WHOIS result but it's very unlikely that they'll do anything if you don't take legal matters. |

GoDaddy has a page where you can report a site hosted on their network in case you're positive they are hosted on GoDaddy: https://supportcenter.godaddy.com/AbuseReport/Index Another option is to contact your local law enforcement agency in case your state has laws against revenge porn, but there's a good chance they wont do much about it or are clueless about such internet crimes. Finally like I mentioned in my previous post, I see https://www.cybercivilrights.org/victim-services/ mentioned everywhere online who provide help in situations like yours. I'm not allowed to give you legal advice because there is no established attorney-client relationship between us but if there were one I would tell you the same thing. Don't waste your time contacting the webmaster or the administrator or anyone else at the site. File the DMCA. If the hosting or registrar fails to respond to the DMCA then you need to contact ICANN with the DMCA and have their registrar license pulled. It won't go that far unless the host is outside the United States. If Namechaep is the registrar then follow the instructions here: https://www.namecheap.com/legal/gene...mark-policies/ |
