Prevent Guests from using registered names/suggest alternatives
Hi,
It seems that when guest posting is enabled, guests are able to use usernames that are already registered, however the status line will show them as Guests rather than as a Member, etc. This is obviously a large hole for social engineering and I'd like to close this gap. What I'd like to see is a way of preventing Guests from using registered names and should they enter one when posting a new item, that they an option to select another or perhaps even from a list of similar names (perhaps with numbers appended from the birthdate, etc? Any ideas on how this could be done? I'm shocked that it's not a standard feature. Paul |

It may well be in vB3...
I dont think there is a hack for this, but I could be wrong... Have you tried searching for it here? Satan |

I did a search and didn't come up with anything, but I didn't look that intensively. Nothing was found for "guest posting" though, so I'd assume there isn't something out there yet.
It seems that vBulletin wasn't really designed or tested with the idea that non-members would be able to post. I keep finding issues with it Perhaps this is a question better suited for vb.com? Paul |

Funny, I just did a search on vb.com and found the following thread. It appears that this is a bug occuring with version 2.2.6. Here's a link to the thread:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...696#post303696 I feel rather silly for not checking there first. I was having a hard time believing that Jelsoft intended for it to work this way. Paul |
