Upgrading issue to 4.2.3
In order to solve a different issue (dialog boxes asking everyone to stay or leave) I tried upgrading from 4.2.2 to the latest version.
I followed the following procedure: Upgrading from vBulletin 4.x.x 1- Close your board via the Admin Control Panel. 2- Delete install/install.php from your upload directory 3- Upload all remaining files from the 'upload/' folder in the zip. 4- Open your browser and point the URL to your forums, e.g. http://www.example.com/install/upgrade.php (where www.example.com/ is the URL of your vBulletin). Make sure to upload the files into your previous installation directory as appropriate (e.g. /forums/). The Upgrade Wizard will determine your vBulletin version and jump forward to the appropriate upgrade step. I uploaded all the files - but when I try step 4, it doesn't seem to move the process forward....it just redirects to the (unupgraded) forum. when I try to access admin CP I get this: Security Alert! The /install directory still exists. This poses a security risk, so please delete that directory immediately. You cannot access the control panel until you do so. Please dear people, any insight on what is going on - how do i move forward? many thx! |

So if I understand you correctly, when you browse to http://yourforum.com/forumpath/install/upgrade.php it redirects you back to the forum?

Hmm, do you make use of rewrite rules? Try to rename the .htaccess file in the root of your forum to something else temporarily and try again.

Just realized it might be a PHP version upgrade that's needed. Will check that first.
