Server Backup
Hey all,
My dedicated servers are getting a bit too large to keep downloading. I was looking for an inexpensive solution to have my Plesk server back up to another server via ftp. I tried getting a godaddy hosting account but it will not let Plesk connect automatically. Does anyone know of another solution? I need like 500gig to a tb maybe and I need to have connect directly using ftp to store my server back ups. What do you guys use to back up large servers? Thanks, Rich --------------- Added [DATE]1469955891[/DATE] at [TIME]1469955891[/TIME] --------------- ##Update - I found an extension for Plesk that allows me to connect to Dropbox and push my back ups there. I am currently testing with the pro account for around $10 per month. I am not sure if this is really the ideal solution but it is a way to back up my files away from the server itself and it is only $10 per month. I am still open to other suggestions though. |

I used to use BQ Backup for automatically backing up my site. If I recall, I did it via a cron job and rsync. It's been a while since I used that service though and I don't quite recall exactly what I set up.

My VPS has automatic backups of the whole server, costs me £1 month more.

For 500GB - 1 Terabyte? That's a smokin' deal.

I never said anything about 500GB to 1TB - just indicating it comes as a service with the VPS.
The actual chanrge is worked out at 20% (My VPS's are $5 each). A VPS that huge size would be very expensive ($300+) so $60+ to add backup. |

I have 2 dedicated servers and probably about 650 gigs total between the 2 of them that I needed to back up. For now I am using Dropbox for $10 a month. The back up files generated by Plesk for my domain accounts are transferred over there in tar files.
I did try godaddy because they have cheap plans for unlimited data but I could not connect my server to theirs through ftp.. My host(1and1) I basically just lease the server from does offer back up space offsite but it would cost me more than I am willing to spend just for some storage space. I would set up a server here and download the data directly to my location but my bandwidth is limited to 250 gigs a month or so and that would kill it. Thanks guys.. PS - i just noted the word UP never was posted in my thread title. That is what happens when I post in the middle of the night after being woken up by a screaming 7 week old. |

Thank you but I already know how to do the back ups and how to send them to another server. The issue was finding one reasonable priced that would allow me to do server to server transfer. Godaddy does not allow it at least on thier inexpensive hosting packages.
For now Dropbox seems to be working fine. It basically just runs my Plesk pback ups for the domains on my servers and then transfers them to my dropbox account which is about $10 a month for 1 tb. The ultimate solution would be running my database from 2 locations and also having files backed up daily as well but this solution is ok for now. Thanks much for the tips |

I do not use godaddy for my dedicated servers. I wanted to buy a cheap hosting package with unlimited drive space and transfer my back ups there using server to server ftp with a cron task but it will not work with GoDaddy.
