For choosing web hosting companies, you need to read reviews carefully to avoid bad hosts, also avoid EIG hosting companies.

I've actually had good luck with GoDaddy as well excepting for their sloth in updating PHP and MySQL versions on their shared servers.

I switched from Hostgator to MDDHOSTING about 6 months ago, after Hostgator was bought out and the customer service and quality went right down the toilet. MDD has been absolutely fantastic. The customer service is like night and day.

My advice: Avoid ANY company that has been bought up by EIG!
