Maybe you misunderstood because mobile style is different from responsive style so that it can still affect by this update

The last I heard about that update is that it will impact your rate if you are using a different page for mobile with different content. I am not sure if we would be effected if using a decent mobile theme as long as the content is the same though one never knows what google will do.

I definitely think responsive is the way to go though!
