Can banner ads be entered into forum side blocks? Ideally rotating ads?

I use the VSA Rotating Banner system which works well but need side ad side blocks as well.

Would I be better getting someone to design an ad mod from the ground up? I 'hired' someone on rent a coder to adapt my existing banner system this but long story short, they can't due to VSA not being open source.

fwiw i believe there is a current issue that will leave "blank bars" from the side blocks of every "ad" on every single page so you need to code the css to not display but if u have alot its a major pain takes alot of time making exeptions for every page and widget, just so u know...
