Error on new vBul install...
Hello all,
I just bought vBulletin and downloaded the newest version of 4. On my server, I've set up a database, edited the config file properly, uploaded the files, and when I try step 5 of the install instructions and point my browser to http://www.example.com/install/install.php (and of course insert the correct web address) I get the following error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home1/ransclan/public_html/zenithowner/zoforum/includes/functions.php on line 5313 I'm not sure where to look or what to do. Can someone smarter than me help me fix this? Thank you!! |

PHP 5.2.17 and MySQL 5.5.42-37.1-log
Thanks I will try Googling the error and see if it helps. The problem for me usually is that if Google has a fix, where is line 5313?? --------------- Added [DATE]1445213186[/DATE] at [TIME]1445213186[/TIME] --------------- Ok from what I see in Google, I need to use PHP version 5.3 So, if I change my PHP version at the server to 5.3, will my two other vBulletin forums still work? Or will I have compatibility issues with switching from 5.2 to 5.3 It appears I'm already in over my head! |

Just take your time and you should be okay
So this post from Lynne (Of the vB3 series, only 3.8.8 will work with PHP5.4. None of the 3.x series has been verified as working with PHP5.5. ) I don't know if vb3 will work with php 5.3, I'd go with 5.4. It was from March of 2014, so I'm sure any newer version of the 3.x series would work as well. I think there is a 3.8.9 |

Thanks Brandon-I've updated the PHP and luckily my other two vBul forums still work!
Now, when I do the same step 5 as above, I get this message... Setting up the new database was a simple task so I'm not sure why it doesn't have access. Working on that.... Thanks for getting me this far tho!! --------------- Added [DATE]1445217172[/DATE] at [TIME]1445217172[/TIME] --------------- AH! Don't mind me! I found that I never assigned the user (me) to the database. This is so frustrating but it feels so good when you work all day at something and then you figure it out! LOL As of now, I think it's working!! |

Make sure the user actually has permissions to use the database.
