Chatbox - mgc_cb_evo.php - Upgrade, Install or New Chatbox?
I run a forum which had MGC Chatbox Evo v2.4.2 - created by MGC - Copyright 2009 installed on (VB 3.8.6) It had not been upgraded for a while, maybe 3-4 years and worked great. Recently I upgraded to VB 5 and it was incompatible and apparently no upgrade available. This is what I was told. I am not technical, am incapable of doing anything except basic forum administration/Moderating. I always get others to do anything technical for me, please keep this in mind.
After installing VB 5, it basically ruined my forum, ruined it in more ways then I have time to write out here. Sadly I just had to pay someone 200 bucks to un-install VB 5, and revert back to 3.8.6. After doing this he decided there were too many security holes in it and upgraded it to VB 4, latest version. Question #1. Will that older version of mgc_cb_evo.php chatbox work on the VB 4 platform? Question #2. If yes, What needs to be done to install it into the VB 4 platform? Question #3. If no, is there an upgrade available for mgc_cb_evo.php chatbox? Question #4. If there is no upgrade available, is there another chatbox available, which can be installed on the top of every page in the forum, (VB 4) which is customizable like mgc_cb_evo.php chatbox was? It is a research forum, and I have found it is a must for our community to have it at the top of every page in the forum, so wherever you are, with whatever question or help is needed, it can be easily asked and accessed to get quick replies. I prefer the chatbox I had, it was easy, very functional, customizable from Admin CP and had multiple channels. Hopefully I can get some help on this from other users who have had this same problem and/or the Admins here. Thanks for your help-- Cheers- Phil |

No it will not work on vB5, and it will not be upgraded to work with it. You need this one instead, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=288915

Ozzy,
Thanks for the quick response. Above, I said that VB 5 was a nightmare and it ruined my entire online community, so I needed to downgrade to the latest version of VB4. I saw in this thread it is compatible with VB4. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...50#post2554650 This mod is automatically compatible with vB3.6.x, vB3.7.x, vB3.8.x and vB4.x.x I guess my question now is this; Is it customizable in VB 4, latest version? Can I have it at the top of each and every forum page like it was? And can I achieve that from the Admin CP as I was able to before? And is it as customizable in vb admin cp as it was in 3.8.6? If you have these answers please let me know. But I do have a question about that dragon software. Is it possible to put the text field at the bottom running east to west or are you stuck with that box on the side? Thanks for taking the time to respond. By the way, I am looking through your extensive mods page now and it is quite impressive. Do you fix mods and do free-lance work also? I might have need of that if the price is in my range, which admittedly isn't very much... :erm: Cheers- Phil |

Best place to ask those sort of questions is in the modifications thread. That is the proper place, not out here in the open forums.
