vBulletin developers have never worked on modifications.
(except maybe the odd one in their spare time, but not officially)

In simple terms, you cannot.
While the upgrade does not remove any old, unused tables, it does alters a few.
The data in those tables is no longer vB4 compatible, making it very difficult to go backwards.
