Smart phone data usage
On my smartphone I have Verizon cell service that has 1 gig of data monthly. I'm hardly ever away from wi-fi and seldom use but maybe a 10th of my data limit. In the next few weeks before school starts back I plan on taking 2 of my Grandsons on a fishing/camping trip. While there I thought it would be neat to run the gps app i have on the phone. That way when we come home I can download the info showing our routes of travel both on the water and in the camping area/trails.
Question: Running the gps app for 48 hours will all be on data as the gps uses data. Should I increase my data plan? Does gps really use that much data? I know I can pre-load the maps to limit usage for that purpose, I'm just worried about any other data that may be required. Ideas/suggestions ? |

What kind of phone os do you have? Android, Iphone, Windows?
Generally speaking the gps itself does not use the data. It is your mapping and that depends on what you use, Google maps or what ever but it does not use that much data. I think you should be fine. Have a good trip! Sounds like fun! # - I use Android so this may not apply to you but if you use Google Maps you can actually download certain maps and areas right to your phone. This will make for less data usage and quicker response when mapping your locations. |

Yeh the gps app allows for preloaded maps/map tiles so I'm hoping I'll be ok. Going over on data usage is tooooo expensive! Thanks, I'm looking forward to a great weekend with the little guys. |
