How to set an age restriction on a channel/forum
Hi -- How can I implement an age restriction on one or more channels/forums? Additionally, is there a way to use Promotions (or something else) to automatically allow access to those channels/forums once the user turns the required age?
I see that there are several age restriction mods/hacks for prior versions of vBulletin, but we're running 5.1.1. Thank you! |

I have never seen any age type of plugins even for vb4

Really?
Like I said, it doesn't have to be a mod, or a promotion, or a plugin. I don't really care what method or hack it takes; I just want to know if it's possible in VB5 and, if so, how to do it. Thanks! |

Wouldn't any MOD that does this rely on the honesty of the person when they sign up ?

By registering on this forum you are assumed to be over ** insert age**, and are not contravening any laws in your state or country by doing so. |

Thanks for your responses. Yes, I'm running a 13+ site, so "mixed ages" would be the demographic description. And no, the age restriction is not to head off any legal liability. There's a crafting marketplace section that we want restricted to users who are 18+ because having minors active in the marketplace creates notorious headaches. We do have the age restrictions clearly outlined in the forum's rules and TOS, so that "safeguard" (if you could even call it that) does exist, at least.
Yes, people can lie about their age when they register; and yes, any mod that does this would rely on people's honesty. The system isn't perfect, but we're trying to work with what's available/possible. We are fully aware of how impractical, ridiculous, pointless, etc. etc. etc., ad nauseam, it is to implement an age-restricted mod, but such a feature *would* prevent at least *some* problems for us. The forum I'm running attracts a very particular demographic and is built largely on honesty and reputation, and surprising as it may seem, the vast majority of users do not lie about their birth dates (our demographic is not 14-year-old boys trying to access adult content). So to rise above the side discussion of how pointless it is to even want such a mod, and to get back to the point of the thread, my question still stands: Are age-restricted channels possible with VB 5? ForceHSS said no, so that is what I'm going to assume -- unless anyone else can confirm otherwise? |

Not right now.
Though, I don't think it'd be impossible to do. Do you just want to take their DOB on the profile? |

Thanks, Zachery. Yep, that's exactly what we want to do -- just use the DOB they give in their profile. Any ideas?
