Clickable custom User Profile field? Help!
I want to add some fields to the User Profile, where the user is asked to type in their link and those links become "clickable" when they are displayed on the User Profile.
For instance, they could type in the link for their blog, or Facebook page, or LinkedIn profile. Once it is saved, I'd like these to show up as clickable links in the profiles; right now it is cut-and-paste only. Adding HTML or BB code tags when the user enters the information doesn't work. (I realize there is one "home page" URL field that is clickable. I want to display more in the profiles.) I searched and found only this thread on vBulletin.com which doesn't offer a solution, and suggests coming here for help instead. I am not a programmer, but I can fake my way through some hacks with guidance. For instance, I have successfully removed the instant messaging stuff using the fine instructions found here. (Currently using v4.2.0 patch 3; yes, I know I need to upgrade. Working on it.) Might anyone be able to provide me with similar instructions for making a single-text field on the User Profile turn into a clickable link? |

I am pretty sure this has been brought up a few times in this thread - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=250418 - so read through there and see.

Hi, Lynne!
Thank you for your help! I will definitely dig into the link you sent. But, since I am so new at this, I do have to ask what's a "postbit"? I guess, more specifically, I can see that there are several Postbit Templates, but how do I determine which one I'm looking for? (None of them immediately scream "user profile" or "about me" page.) And the fields already show up on the desired page, I just want to make them clickable. (I may be confused, but the link you sent seems more about making fields show up someplace they didn't show up previously?) |

Maybe try this ... ?
Parse BBCode for Custom User Profile Fields This mod will parse BBCode in any and all customer user profile fields you may have created for display on the profile page. |

Ah, on the member page, not in the thread. You are going to have to remove it from that page (not have the software automatically put it there) and instead add it via a plugin if you want it to be a link and not just a value.

I have to say I haven't tried a plugin before. Is there one available that will do this?
If not, I guess I will just have to write this off for now as a "nice to have", and not a "have to have." It seems to be above my level. |

I have not done a search to see if their is a plugin/modification already that does what you want. You may want to try that.

Take a look at this:

Ooh! That's interesting. So, I wouldn't make the change in the HTML for the template, but I'd make the change in PHP somewhere? Where would the PHP change go?
