Well, let's compare vBulletin and a computer game for now.
vBulletin costs $160 to own forever -A computer game (let's use StarCraft) costs $40 dollars to own forever. -vBulletin makes you pay $30 each year to get the new updates, while StarCraft gives you unlimited udates forever for free. -vBulletin only has 155 images, all very basic rectangles with rounded eges and a picture and some words on it; while StarCraft needs thousands of pictures, all very complex and perfectly designed for the movements of each character. -vBulletin is designed in PHP, a much easier language to learn than C++. -With vBulletin, all you're getting is some virtual files, but with StarCraft you are also paying for the box, the CD, the small guide that comes with it, and two large game guides that also come with it. -StarCraft has a huge network where people can play together. vBulletin just has forums.... With the way it works, shouldn't the game cost more than a vB with how much more complex it is in every way? Jeez.... |

Two different types of software. Be fair.

The $30 renewal is optional. Also what you are paying for is a high end bulletin board system that can run on most (if not all!) servers out there that support PHP and mySQL.
You must realize that there is a huge support team for vBulletin, Try comparing that to the support you get from a game ![]() Also, You can add "hacks" to your vBulletin for FREE that will be very useful both to you and your members. c'mon, $160 for a product that you can use until you die isn't a bad price at all! - Probably less than $3 a year ![]() And once you have completed a game you can't do much else with it apart from playing again from scratch...but that would probably get boring after a while ![]() Regards, John Round Webmaster, WeakestLinkForum.com |

I really don't understand the purpose of a thread like this or why anyone would compare a computer game to BB software. A game has a much larger market with potential buyers in the millions. Thus the return on investment is spread over many more buyers.
Bottom line - if you think the price is too high - don't buy it! No one is forcing this on you. ![]() |

Jeeezez!
This discussion is getting older than my really old and worn out boxer briefs (very, very old in other words). CeleronXL, and everyone else that complains about stupid stuff like this over and over again, if ya don't like it, don't buy it. It's not like someone is holding a gun to your head, forcing you to get a copy of vBulletin, is it? I could give a serious answer too, pointing out differences in the two markets, etc, but the first post was so stupid it would be a waste of time. Chen, here's a new hack idea for you: Automatic moderation of new threads that [better wash my mouth][better wash my mouth][better wash my mouth][better wash my mouth][better wash my mouth] about price, and other annoying stuff we have seen a zillion times before? |

I did buy it. I just thought about it differently though and compared it to software like Araxis Merge or something. I guess it's fair enough.
