Default How to set a default subscription mode for blogpost comments?

When I use the quick-reply form under a blogpost, vBulletin does not subscribe me to be notified about future comments (replies).

But when I open the advanced editor, the "subscribe via my UserCP" option is set as default (that can be set in the AdminCP I think).

So, how to use this "default" option set in AdminCP for the quick-reply form as well?

I haven't tested it at all, I've just looked at the code, but it looks like if you use quick reply it will only subscribe you to the entry if you have chosen that option in the blog settings (in your own user settings).

Right, I didn't notice that before. But why does the user set new subscription settings - default settings should be saved there! That doesn't make any sense.

Any idea how to apply default settings (set in AdminCP) to all newly registered members (and current ones)? I don't want them to bother with an announcement notyfing them about this glitch.

When you say the "default settings should be saved there", where do you mean exactly? Are you talking about the new comment "go advanced" page or the user's settings?

Which adminCP setting are you talking about? I didn't see one for blogs, and I guess the blog doesn't use the one for the forums. I suppose it might be possible to create a plugin that checks the forum setting.

To be honest I'm still not sure why it would show a different setting on the advanced page - seems like that should default to what you have chosen. But it might be that if you've commented on that entry before but chosen not to subscribe, it remembers that as the default for quick reply.

Eh, forget what I said before. The default settings defined by an admin is being saved for new users. I just created another username and checked it out.

But there is a problem - when using the quick-reply OR advanced-editor form (I just tested it) , the blogpost URL is saved to a list of your subscribed blogposts, but there is no notification for new comments.

I expected that there would appear a new item in the Notifications drop-down menu (similar to notifications about new PMs). Nothing like that happens. E-mail notification also doesn't seem to work.

Could you please verify whether that happens in your vBulletin too?

Well, I think "Through my control panel only" means you go to the control panel to see new comments, so you don't get any notification. But you're saying if you select email notification you never get it? Are you getting any subscription emails?

Edit: I've verified that I get an email notification for a new comment if I explicitly set the subscription type to "instant email notification". I think your forum needs to have some traffic otherwise emails don't get sent out (depending on you email settings).

Yeah, that's probably it, the email arrived a while ago, sorry, false alarm. :erm:

There is a list of subscribed blogposts on this page: /blog_subscription.php?do=entrylist
The problem is that nobody visits this page. Is there a way to show new notifications in UserCP or via the Notifcations drop-down menu?

I don't know of any way to do it without creating a plugin. Here's a thread where someone asked about adding a notification: www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=286095 But of course you'd need to figure out a way to know how many unread blog comment a user has.

I think that I'll use e-mail notifications then, I am not really sure that I could make it work with my programming "skills".

Thanks for your answers.
