Calculating total over all views
I've been out of the loop for almost a year now and with things finally sorted out I'd like to get back in to my forum with a vengance. I was looking at my forum this morning and was interested in which threads have the most views. I found my 3.8 crash log has over 12,000 views.
So it occured to me that would make a rather interesting stat to put in the what's going on box along side the threads and posts stats. For some larger forums that could turn out to be a rather large number. For mine it would just be another stat. Ok so the view per thread has to be a variable and that variable has to be stored somewhere. The forum software has to be able to track the views on each thread and update it at a preprogrammed interval. Would it be possible to, at a certain time, go get the total views for each thread, add them together and put the result in another variable? Then have the content of the total variable displayed say in the what's going on box. I'm running 4.1.2 by the way. |

The field is thread.views . You could probably write a Scheduled Task to do a total of that every day and then put it in the datastore to easily grab it.
