This will help you in achieving a 4colum footer with social icons & you can customize it to match your needs.

Backup your footer template before making any changes.

Go to your Admin CP->>>Your Style>>>Edit Templates>>>footer

How would one center all the columns?

so on wide screen monitors it will show as centered.

Actually, depending on your screen resolution it will change.

So, you need to play with this..
