Invite / Normal Registration - 2 Different UserGroups

Hello everyone, first off thanks for taking the time to read this query and hopefully somebody can help me out.

I want to have an invite mod on my forum as well as normal registration.
The reason for this is that I want to have public sections and private sections on my forum.

The people in the usergroups that have access to the private sections will have the ability to invite people (with invite mod) and when the invitee registers, they will be put into a specified usergroup (not registered users Group 2).

Also visitors to my site, who can only see the forum sections I specify as public, can sign up via normal registration and will, as usual, be put into registered users group 2. These people will never be put into a group that can see the private sections unless I manually do it.


Now I know I can achieve this manually by confirming each account manually and manually putting a user into the relevant group after registration, but I would like to be able to automate the process.

I currently have Vsa-Advance Registration Mod installed, but it only seems to be able to put users into the default of usergroup 2 on registration.
I have looked for other invite mods, but nothing seems to be able to do the job.
Is there an invite mod that can already do this, or is someone able to help me out to change this on an existing mod?
I wouldn't mind a paid mod or something similar, I just need to be able to do this.

Can't you set up a promotion to automatically promote all users from that usergroup2 to whatever other usergroup you specify?

yes but that will promote all users from one group to the other.
I want to seperate users into groups depending on whether they use the invitation method (private forum) or the normal open registration method (public forum).
